A Dental Crown Restoration Might Need to Treat Tooth Enamel Attrition

Home | dental crown

Tooth enamel attrition is a chronic condition that can result when two or more teeth rub together at an unnatural angle. Also known as dental attrition, it can gradually lead to increasing tooth sensitivity, and tooth decay. In some cases the compromised structural integrity of the tooth can lead to a severe dental fracture. If you have noticed an abnormal change in texture or increased sensitivity one of your teeth, you should schedule an appointment with our dentist, Dr. [doctor_name]. After examining the tooth, [heshe] can help you understand your treatment options.

In a case where the compromised area of tooth enamel is relatively small and tooth decay has not developed, the [dr_type] might be able to treat it with dental filling. If the compromised area is large, [heshe] it might need to perform a dental crown restoration. This mode of treatment is designed to replace the tooth’s enamel layer with a special material. Most dental crowns are created from either porcelain, gold, or a metal alloy. If necessary, the [dr_type] might also alter the biting surface of the tooth that caused the damage, or [heshe] might recommend another orthodontic option to help prevent a future problem

If you live in the [city], [state], area and you suspect dental attrition has started to affect one of your teeth, you should call [phone] to have it examined and treated at [practice_name].

Dr. [doctor_name] and our [practice_name] team have been helping patients in [city], [state], with their oral health needs for a while now. Our goal is to support your oral health needs to achieve and maintain healthy smiles.

But what if you are currently struggling with an infected tooth causing you to experience tooth pain? If your tooth is infected or inflamed, you may benefit from our root canal treatment. You see, the center of your tooth holds the tooth pulp. This pulp is made of connective tissues, blood vessels, and nerves which branch out into each root through canals in the tooth. Thanks to decay, they can become inflamed or infected.

A tooth may become compromised by cracking, breaking, having a deep cavity, injury to the tooth, repeated dental treatments such as fillings on a tooth, and even gum disease. All of these scenarios allow bacteria to enter the pulp and damage the tooth.

At our practice, we generally opt for saving a tooth rather than replacing it whenever possible. A root canal allows us to do just that. And while patients often worry that root canals are painful procedures, not only are root canals similar to having a filling done, they provide pain relief from current tooth pain.

So what can you expect when you come in for a root canal treatment? After X-rays have been taken and we determine where the infection lies, we make sure you are as comfortable as possible. Next, our dentist will set to work removing the damaged pulp, thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the space left behind and filling and sealing the area with gutta-percha, a rubberlike material. After a root canal has been performed, the tooth will need either a dental filling or crown.

How can you avoid dental decay and gum disease? Your first line of defense is prevention. Diligent daily brushing and flossing will remove food particles, bacteria, and plaque that can lead to decay. Coupled with regular dental cleanings to remove hardened plaque and tartar deposits, you will be providing the best possible environment for your oral health.

Even after a root canal treatment, a tooth can still be affected by decay and gum disease. This means maintaining good oral hygiene. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a cleaning and exam, please call us at [phone]. Dr. [doctor_name] and our [practice_name] team in [city], [state], are here for your smile!

If you are currently suffering from tooth decay but you are considering just ignoring the problem and hoping things get better, then our [practice_name] team wants to tell you why you need to receive treatment right away.

Tooth decay is a serious dental issue that should never be ignored. If you treat it right away, it will probably only need a dental filling. If you delay treatment, you might have to experience more serious and expensive treatment, like:

-Dental crown placement: If the tooth decay is not treated, it will destroy a majority of the tooth’s structure, which is hard to correct with a dental filling. Therefore, if a lot of the tooth is diminished, a dental crown is the only treatment that can fix it.

-Root canal treatment: If the tooth decay is not treated and it reaches the pulp chamber, which is where the nerve and blood vessels are located, then the pulp will be irritated and infected. This can also lead to an abscess, which is extremely painful. At this point, only a root canal can take care of the issue.

-Tooth extraction: If the tooth decay is not treated and it completely damages the tooth, then a tooth extraction is needed, which is the treatment that should be avoided as much as possible. This is the only option when a dental crown or root canal treatment cannot help the situation.

So, the best thing you can do is visit your dentist, Dr. [doctor_name], as soon as possible and get your tooth decay in [city], [state], treated. If you have any questions or if you would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to give our office a call. We are more than happy to help you in any way we can!
