If you have lost one or more teeth, you understand the serious impact tooth loss has on your life. Having one or multiple missing teeth can affect your ability to speak and eat properly, as well as your smile’s appearance and your self-confidence. We at VIP Smiles offer several options including dental implants that are aimed to help restore your smile and your self-esteem. One of those options is dental implants. We provide dental implants to help our clients, but there are certain qualifications that must be met to get dental implants. Continue reading to learn more.
What Are Dental Implants?
Before getting into why implants are important, dental implants must first be defined. A dental implant is a small, screw-like post that is surgically placed into the jawbone in place of the missing tooth root. Dental implants are used when a tooth has been knocked out or removed due to being infected. A dental implant is essentially a fake tooth that is rooted in the jawbone. Implants act as supports for dental crowns, dental bridges, dentures, and partial dentures. With a dental implant, an individual with a missing tooth will be better able to eat and will be happier with their smile.
The Process For Dental Implants
Determine Eligibility
We at VIP Smiles offer options for implants. An individual must be eligible for implants. Eligibility is entirely based on whether a person’s jawbone can support an implant. If the bone has deteriorated due to disease, then it is unlikely that a dental implant procedure will be safe. However, there may be the option to do bone grafting in order to implement the dental implant. The best way to determine if your mouth will be able to support an implant is to come in for an appointment with VIP Smiles.
Implementation
After a consultation to determine if a dental implant would be appropriate for a client’s individual case, we at VIP Smiles will invite you in for an appointment to put the metal implant in. Once the metal post has been implanted, we then allow a healing period, usually lasting three to six months, during which time the jawbone bonds with the titanium implant post in a process known as osseointegration.
After this healing period, our dentists place the dental implant restoration on top of the post. The restoration replaces the crown of the tooth, which is the portion visible above the gums. Depending on which teeth are missing, your restoration may include a dental crown, a dental bridge, a complete set of dentures, or partial dentures. These restorative prosthetic pieces are the part that will make your smile return to normal, as they look and function like regular teeth.
